I am currently reading through William Goble's Practical Probabilistic Calculations and I had some questions regarding one particular calculation. The question is as follows:

Code:
The total test time for 50 transmitters in identical service was 7640 hours. During this period, 16 failures were experienced. Calculate the failure rate.

How would one go about solving this? I do not understand the solution given in the back of the text book.

Thank You in Advance

it should be 16/(7640*50) --> total failures / total unit hours
