Underwater cable joint

Is it possible to make cable joint under the sea? If so, can anyone tell me the details of this joining method?? Thanks in advance!!

For pre-existing cable, we float out a barge, lift the cable up onto the deck, dry the crap out of it, and joint it (above the water).

For laying cables, a ship with the complete length of cable wound in a circular (horizontally) fashion is floated over the route. The cable is then fed out the back as the ship slowly moves along. Jointing is all done back on shore before the cable is loaded onto the ship.

Busbar, I've got a mental picture of you having a little strife getting the gas torch started to shrink the Raychem. Or would you be using a coldshrink product?
