Hello,
I have a braced connection with a beam connected to the web of a column (as opposed to the flange in the classical example). Do I use the column eccentricity (e_b) equal to the column_web_thickness/2 when satisfying the zero-moment UFM criteria?

Thanks,

AISC has design guide 29 which goes in depth for brace connections. They have specific sections dedicated to braces that attach to the column web.

Yes, it is correct to use the tw/2 for that eccentricity. Though many just assume this is equal to zero for simplicity.

I believe (as StructSU10 said) this is discussed in more detail in that design guide.

Thanks. I looked at the design guide and can confirm it is web_thickness/2 however this is typically negligible so as assumed to be 0.
