Hi all,
I'm designing a cone clutch unit and I need to decide what type of plain bearing to use. The bearing is 3/4" long and rides on a steel male drive shaft that has a 1" OD. The bearing has a 1" ID and a 1.125" OD and rides inside of a steel journal with ID of 1.125". There is a couple thousandths clearance between these for the bearing to ride. The most radial load that it will see is 250lbs at a max RPM of 10,000. Would a bronze plain bearing be right for this application? We don't really have the room for a needle roller bearing, and we'd like to get away with just a machined bronze bearing. Will SAE945 suffice, or would we have to use oilite? Also, we are using a high temp disc brake grease and I'm not sure we'd be able to use this for oilite? Any input would be greatly appreciated, I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to this subject.
