HI Friends,
one of client is requesting to use AISI4130 for valve body & bonnet.
Temperature is high as 200 Deg C.
I have checked B16.5 for flange but I could not found AISI4130 material for use of flange.
is it acceptable to use AISI4130 material ? and where can i find those point for refer.

Acceptable from which point of view? There are so many answers to this question. From a Code, metallurgical, corrosion POV? Or ..?
As per B16.5, if a material isn't listed under B16.5, you can't use it as a B16.5 flange. Period.
If you need a 4130 flange material, you'd have to custom design this flange as per your design code (which I'm assuming is ASME VIII-1 since you mentioned ASME II).

XL83NL raises good points.

If this is an API 6A valve, then it could be fine (provided a suitable grade of 4130 is used and suitable flanges / pressure rating).

If this is for use in an ASME B31.3 or Section VIII application, then the use of unlisted material makes it more complicated but possibly doable.

What is the design code for this valve?

Sounds a lot like a 1 Cr - 1/5 Mo to me. G41350 / SA-372 forging.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

If the items are API 6A, 4130 is a common material used for bonnets and bodies. You would need to qualify the material per Annex G - Elevated Temperatures API-6A 21st ed.

Dear Friends,

Thx for your reply.

Client wants API 6A design code for choke but wants to use 4130 material for forged body & bonnet.
I can use API 6A annex G for high temp. design but I am not sure that i can use 4130 material for ASME B16.5 flange.

Erkamal, there is a 1-Cr 1/2 Mo material listed in B16.5, SA-182-F12, close as you are going to get I'd say. Good luck finding any :)

Hello

You can make the B16 flange out of 4130 if it passes the calculations. I wouldn't mix welding materials using 4130, you will have a hard time finding a WPS per API/ASME. Is the choke being used for H2s service?
We manufacture chokes for Cameron and BP, both use B16 flanges from 4130 75k NQT NACE PSL-3.

You can conform to API 6A and have fit-for-purpose B16.5 flanges using 4130 for the flange material. Ensure that the 4130 grade that you are using (most likely 75K) is at least as strong as the B16.5 material for the B16.5 material class at the rated temperature - this is usually not a problem.

Note that in the context of API 6A, a B16.5 flange is an "Other End Connector (OEC)", so you have to meet all the API 6A requirements for OECs, including stress calculations or analysis.
