Okay I have searched hi-lo for an equivalent us spec for this material listed 30MnB3... It is used for bolts and I know its a European spec...but even when I Google it I would expect to find many hits on this material and even on matweb it has no reference to it...

Does anybody know anything about this material???

There is no equivalent in what you would call a US specification. Boron-alloyed steels are more common, and have been included in more consensus standards, in Europe. 30MnB4 (you erred with 30MnB3) is included in EN 10263-4 Steel rod, bars and wire for cold heading and cold extrusion. Technical delivery conditions for steels for quenching and tempering. Some similar documents used by US companies include ASTM F2282 Standard Specification for Quality Assurance Requirements for Carbon and Alloy Steel Wire, Rods, and Bars for Mechanical Fasteners and IFI-140 Carbon and Alloy Steel Wire, Rods, and Bars for Mechanical Fasteners. Neither of these standards have an alloy similar to 30MnB4 - the closest are 10B21 and 10B38.

Thanks so much, this at least can give me some more information on this particular steel...

What is the manganese content? If it is elevated, it might be similar to 15B30, which is similar to 30MnB5. I have never seen a 30MnB3 grade either.

Mn = 0.80-1.10 for 30MnB4 according to DIN EN 10263-4.
