All,
I'm modeling some URM and want to account for uplift that can occur at the piers... To do this I've provided a deformation controlled Axial (P) Hinge at the top of each pier with Full Compression Capacity (say -200 kip) and Zero Tension Capacity (0 kip) (Elasto-Perfectly Plastic F-D Relationship after that). When I run my analysis though, I'm finding that the Axial hinge is "Yielding" in compression at a very light load (say -2 kip)... If I increase the TENSION capacity of the Hinge (say to +10 kip), the issue is eliminated (even though the hinge never goes into tension in the first place...!).
I'm wondering if this is just a tolerance issue with SAP, but its rather frustrating... has anyone else encountered this or found a solution..?
(Also, I've tried applying Tension/Compression Limits to the elements and the model has difficulty with convergence on that setting and I'm hoping to avoid the remodeling that would be required to add GAP Link elements above the piers which is my next though).
Thanks in advance
