Update Display in NX

When working with large assemblies, the graphics appear jagged when you zoom into work in a specific area. Not really a big deal to MB3 > Update Display. It's quick and fixes the display.

But "Update Display" is only accessible when right-clicking in an empty area. If you're zoomed in, right-clicking will probably grab a component. This forces you to zoom out to get empty space, and make that command available, and then zoom back in to work.

There isn't a speed-key that will invoke it, nor an icon on the toolbar - and even with all the customization you can do in NX9, I still cannot find a way to have this valuable command accessible any other way.

Are we missing something? Many users here are frustrated by that. I guess we could journal a new button, but is there anything we just are not seeing/using?

The start with, what version of NX are you running?

If you're running NX 9.0 or NX 10.0, even if you do place your cursor over an object when you press MB3, you will still have access to the 'View' functions from the last item on the pop-up dialog.

Thst being said, no matter what version of NX is being used, if you hold-down the 'ctrl' key while pressing MB3, irrespective of where the cursor is, you'll always get the 'View' pop-up.

While it might appear that the RESULTS are the same, and for all intents and purposes, they are, there are still significant differences between performing an 'Update Display' or a 'Regenerate Work' View operation that you should be aware of.

'Update Display' will only update the display of the edges and faces as seen on the screen but in a manner which is very efficient, while a 'Regenerate' discards ALL of the graphical data and then recomputes the display of the edges and faces of the entire model before the view is 'updated'. Consequently, a 'Regenerate' operation generally takes longer to perform and requires more memory than does a simple 'Display Update'.

Now you might be asking, "Which operation should I use?"

Well the answer is; under normal conditions, I would always use 'Display Update'. Now there are a few situations where you might need to use the 'Regenerate Work' view operation to eliminate some temporarily displayed objects although a display 'Refresh' usually takes care of that, but occasionally it still might be the only way to assure you that you're seeing the best possible display results. That being said, with some of the recent changes in the use of faceted representations and new options for how models are displayed, these differences may not be as important as they once were.

And one other thing, if you're really looking for a quicker way to 'update' your display, you could use Customize and simply add a 'User Command' which directly launches a 'Display Update' or 'Regenerate Work' view operation from an icon added to a Toolbar or Ribbon.
