Updating Objects in an assembly - Low performance

I use NX 6 and have one particular assembly which is driving me crazy! It has about 300 components in it so its not very large, certainly not as big as others I have worked on. If the master assembly is selected as the work part and then I make one of the components the work part, NX takes about 20-30 seconds to perform the task. It says "updating objects" whilst it makes the component the work part. If I then go back and make the master assembly the work part again(having made no changes at all) it takes another 20-30 seconds to switch back. It is the same if I try to move a component. The assembly has less than 10 assembly constraints and maybe 30 wave linked parts. I could understand it takes time to update things if i make a change to something but it has this delay with every mouse click! I've tried using Tools-> Update-> Delay Interpart but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Please, for the sake of my sanity, can anyone help?

Thanks

I know what caused the problem (although I don't know why). I had added a parts list to the master assembly file (rather than a drawing file of the master assembly) and that was what caused the poor performance. As soon as I deleted the parts list everything was fine again. Another reason to never take shortcuts and always use the master assembly method of designing I guess!
