Im working in NX6.
Ive a problem where when I now open my manufacturing part it opens OK as normal, all my toolpaths are generated as they were previous day.
The toopaths are created using linked geometry form assembled construction parts.

I now have problem where if I save the part(without actually doing anything new in the part) and exit, when I open up the part again it starts updating objects as if there had been a change. This in itself isnt a problem its the fact that it causes me to have to regenerate all of my toolpaths which takes over 2 hours.
Can anyone give any indication of why its happening please
and any solution to stop it.
Many thanks
Dennis

Break the links and/or make certain that you can save and refile the other parts. I would also turn on the delayed update using Tools>Update>Delay Interpart. Check a second time that a tick appears beside the words "Delay Interpart". It can be set on from session to session using gateway before you open any parts or you set it on using the customer defaults.

If you have the advance wave licence then by all means freeze the links instead of breaking them. Otherwise I would knowingly break those links given that it it easy by using edit parameters to freshen them when you're ready. With that sort of time deficit hanging over your head as a matter of course you want to be able manually update the geometry only at a time of my choosing.

Don't feel that you're doing the wrong thing the system is designed to give you options not to automatically update. One level of choice in enhanced if you've the advanced wave license but the work around by selectively breaking links that you can later freshen manually is not necessarily so inconvenient as to be a problem for many of us.

Hi Hudson
Ive tried the the above to no avail. Ive opened each part individually and resaved, set the "delay interpart" but the same thing happens. We do not have the full Wave license.

One thing Ive noticed is that in "Assembly navigator" the top level box is unchecked as is the "sections" box. I tend to hide the assembled parts after linking the geometry required. Should this be checked?

Dennis,

I'm not sure if those two checked boxes affect anything. You could try under the load options ensuring that you have turned off load interpart data. I would lastly ensure that you do try breaking the links and then save the file one time. Then check to see if you still have trouble when you re-open it.

If there are a lot of links within a component that you have loaded for machining then perhaps instead of using that component to drive your paths what you had better do is link the body as a whole into you machining file and break that link leaving the original component hidden or suppressed. The problem could always be other people working on that part or that you do not own those files for write access so that what is underlying to your machining file will not remain static for one reason or the other while you're working on it.

If this works I'd also suggest that you need to put some systems in place to keep track of data so that you know when you have the latest and when you really want to revise your cutter paths.
