I will start out with an explanation: We have a dial-up connection: enough said. Two weeks away from a T1: Our SP's normally come from our VAR on CD. I ordered and have the XP Service Pack 2 from Microsoft. Should I upgrade my XP operating system before installing SW SP1.1 or should I do it the other way around or doesn't it matter? Thanks in advance for your help. Great Forum!!

Theoretically, it shouldn't matter, but I would install the XP/sp2 first, followed by all the latest & "greatest" Windows updates. There have been quite a few critical patches released for sp2 since it's release.

While doing the updates, make sure though that your video card driver isn't automatically updated to one which isn't SW certified.

[cheers] & all the best.

Well this was not a good idea.... I downloaded all of the Windows updates SP2 etc. now SolidWorks will open pull up a file and close down without a word being said. I called my VAR and they said I need to install the SW SP1.1 in order for it to work. I have turned off firewall and it still shuts down any ideas other than downloading SP1.1 for the next 8 hours?

After loading XP/sp2, did you load SW05/sp1.1 before running SW? Did you disable the AntiVirus?
Did you make sure your Video card driver was not upgraded by the Windows upate?
If you did all the above, try a doing a repair. See FAQ section for details.

[cheers] & all the best.

You don't have much of a choice unless you have a cable connection at home or if you know someone that does. Then you can download it and install it the next day. You can request a CD, but they have not been made yet and probably won't be for sometime. So you can either wait for your T1 in 2 weeks, Wait 8 hours to DL from your Dial up, or find some one that already has a fast connection.

It's illegal for anyone to post the SP on their website or FTP for you DL "incase you were wondering". This would help because the traffic is not as high and yoru DL speed would increase.

Thanks guys, I found a friend with Cable Modem and she downloaded it for me. Good thing I had another computer that I hadn't touched yet so I could get a job done. Thanks again.

Update on what has happened: After several calls to tech support they asked me to create another Windows XP account and everything worked.... so whatever I did meant starting over like I had a new computer almost. I hope this is the end of multiple updates for awhile. I just want to design and produce drawings I don't want to be a computer tech.

Thanks for your help.
