Greetings,

I am currently in the preliminary phase of putting together a cbattery testing equipmetomprehensive Preventative Maintenance program to support a large quantity of VRLA 100A33 1600ah batteries. I need recommendations OR comparisons on the following types of equipment:

Megger BITE 3 vs. Fluke BT521

Additionally, has anyone rented a TORKEL 840/860 for load testing? If so, where?

Many thanks.

Tom

HunterPGP,
I never have used the Fluke BT521, brought the Megger BITE 3 with last set of batteries for 125vdc 800amp main substation and Electric Melt Shop (2-76MVA arc furnaces) and controls. I watched the electricians use the Megger BITE 3 and they had no complaints about it. Downloaded data in the charger room right on the computer. Save time and is safer than old hand method of writing cell data for 61 cells.
Do not forget all of the safety equipment including eyewash stand, if needed an emergency shower.
Hope this helps,
Dave

Have rented a Torkel, UK supplier. Does what it says it does. If you're banking up additional loading units be aware that they are fixed resistance loads so check your start and end of discharge voltages and determine how many Torkels you need and how many loading units (TXL's?).
