Dear friend,

Dear friends

are There ups able to withstand the power of air conditioners of 120 kBT??

what must i take into account for dimensioning ???

thx

That is 10 tons of refrigeration - not huge. A generator would be the most practical way to power it.

Look for the cutsheet of your HVAC unit and start from there. 10 tons of refrigeration is not a big animal. If you insist on using a UPS, a 20 kVA unit will do.

Keep motor-driven plant off electronic UPS systems. A generator is a more appropriate solution.

And if you ignore the advice to use a generator instead you need to base the UPS size on the locked rotor current of the ac unit, not the full load rating. Otherwise the UPS will not be able to get the ac started with out the normal supply.

If you are in the condition of needing a UPS (battery) electric supply system, you are NOT in the condition to be wanting to waste that stored power on air conditioning.

now, YES, you may "want to" use air conditioning, but you DO NOT KNOW how long the power will be out. You CANNOT KNOW what the future recovery will be (a few minutes, a few hours, a few days. You ONLY KNOW your current reserves and your current stored energy (gas cans, automobile tanks, generator tank, lawnmower tank, and the batteries in your house and the UPS system.) That's IT. That's ALL you have.

Now, we expect power and services to come back (after the tornado, after the regional storm, after the earthquake, the tsunami, the hill slide or volcano (well, maybe a long time after the lava cools ) ... But you cannot know how long.

So, do NOT waste your stored energy and your reserves on air conditioning. Charging a cell phone or radio or CD player? Absolutely. Running a electric stove or oven? No. Running a microwave? Maybe. it will be much more efficient than a heating element! Running lights in the bathroom? Yes. If no battery lamp is on the wall.

You may want to just restart the A/C on the generator. If it is critical that the A/C keep running, you may want to condider a large enough UPS to keep the A/C running and just enough batteries to keep it running long enough to allow a back up generator to start and come online.
Size is not a problem. I have seen this approach used to keep the feed water pump for the steam generator in a nuclear plant running until the generator came online. This pumpp was a little larger than your A/C. It was 10,000 HP. Yes it can be done.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Forget namely that ups is an additional (3er) source of support air conditioning which exists when there is no electricity .

The room air conditioners cool the data center and the air would function up to one hour (max) only if the generator will not start
money is not a problem XD

If money really isn't a problem and it's a big data centre then consider a rotary UPS from Anton Piller. These handle awkward loads very well, including motors, and typically ride through faults rather than shutting down. Sit down when you open the quotation! [wink]
