Urgent: Alignement of motor and pump using dial gauge

Dear All,
Could you please explain how can I align my motor and pump using ONE dial gauge only?
How to identify the shims thickness based on the values given by the gauge?
I fount in the internet many procudures, but all are using 2 dial gauges and no one is showing how to identify the required shims thickness.
It's extreamly urgent.
