what is the accepted out of levelness for shell body flange for re-boiler heat exchanger.

I found nothing in ASME VIII,API 660 and TEMA ,fortunately ; i found something relevant in Megasy PV handbook which is
The accepted out of levelness for nozzles flange is 0.5o.attached
But I am not confident that it can be applied on the body flange which may add extra stresses on the tube-to-tubesheet joint.

urgency wise could you advise ?

AhmMos, I don't think you will find much on body flange tolerances. Maybe PIP standards address this, I don't know.

The criteria likely will be, will it pass hydro, will it seal in service. Don't think I'd be too concerned about the tube-tubesheet joint.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

ASME PCC 1 or 2 may provide background as well.

If I understand your situation correctly, you have a (horizontal?) body flange on a reboiler that although it is flat, deviates from the true horizontal by some amount. You are trying to determine what is an acceptable amount?

This has no easy answer, because it depends on the situation.

Are your concerns contractual or technical?

As say XC83NL, ASME PCC-1 is correct for this case (referenced in PIP VESV1002)

With a horizontal Hx, a level bundle is the Maximum asymmetrical stress condition. Think that the asym stress on the tubesheet and body flange is zero with the bundle vertical. the bundle is rotated away from vertical, towards horizontal this stress increases to a max at horizontal.
