These are cast iron grades. 40 indicates a tensile strength of 40000 psi and 25 indicates 25000 psi

arunmrao are you sure about the units? I thought the designation numbers in the German iron specifications refered to the minimum tensile strengths in kg/mm2, so a GGL40 would represent a grey cast iron with 40 kg/mm2 minimum tensile.

carburize, you are right. I am sorry about the goof up with the units.

Thanks for the answer. I would like to know what GGV40 and GGZ25 stands for? The V and Z, what do they mean? Is V vanadium and Z for zinc or zirconium? I am trying to generate a stress-strain curve. If I know they are grey iron as I suspect, I can interpolate them with the ASTM class grey Iron whose stress strain curve I know. Thanks again for your cooperation.

GG is grey iron

GGV is compacted graphite iron

Can't identfy GGZ
