I am facing a little confusion regarding the use of API 579 for turbomachinery parts. When I refer to Section 1.2.2 & 1.2.6 of API 579 (Scope), it says that the FFS assessment procedures in ASME FFS-1 can be used to evaluate flaws commonly encountered in pressure vessels, piping and tanks.
Does this mean the scope of API 579 is only limited to pressure vessels, storage tanks and piping or can it also be applied to pressure-bearing machinery parts like a turbine’s casing (which is designed as per API 612)?
