What's your advice on using 3" schedule 80 steel pipe piers in clay subgrade to lift a settled one story house? First a 3" hole, approximately 25 feet deep will be drilled, then the pipe will be pressed to a pressure of 25k +_.

What's the latest data on corrosion of steel piles, and where can I find an internet reference?

Thanks to anyone and everyone who takes the time to answer this.

Where is the site?

It sounds like the PermaJack system; I haven't heard of any failures from corrosion in my area (central Texas.)

Thanks for your reply. Not Perma Jack system, but similar.
Site is located on west coast of Florida. We run into some weird problems. I'm just trying to do due diligence in checking out corrosion problems, etc. We always try to use geotechs first before we jump in. Where do you practice?

Primarily in San Antonio (Go Spurs!) and central Texas, although I've been involved in projects from coast to coast. In Florida (Pensacola), I was involved in some projects on one of the barrier islands.

I ran across your other thread about resupporting the old house - same project? If so, I understand your concern. I'm not sure that you will get a good answer; you might simply tell the owner that the pipe piles are the only viable repair approach - and that their life expectancy is unknown. Offer up the use of sacrificial anodes; with all the boats in Florida, getting them should be pretty easy. The only headache would be in tying all the piles together electrically...
