Gents,
I have a request in from my engineering company to use ETLITE piping sizing for a chilled water system. Unfortunately I have no experience with this software, so my question is; What is your opinion about this soft ware.

i used their software for heating and cooling load calculations once, but what i could see at piping module is messy - i could not get reasonable command of their demo module even with experience of using number of other software packages.

I am not familar withtheir pipe sizing software, but hate their load software. I am familair with Trane tracer and Carrier Haps, but Elite load calcs just seemed cumbersome to use.

knowledge is power

i don't have recent or in-depth experience with elite software. but yeas ago i researched their load calc and energy simulation software and found that very primitive (used bin-method, for example) compared ot actual professional software like Trace. I looked briefly at their duct / pipe sizing and also didn't see something that I think really makes life easier.
Obviously they could have improved over the years, you could try the demo versions.

i have to be fair and say that my negative comment applies only on piping module, elite load calculation is based on CLTD and RTS and does very detailed calculation. duct module is also precise, it only misses european standard duct sizes default set.

actually i have not seen american piping software i would like. elite piping seems to tend to form "academic" piping network, where every pipe will be calculated in detail, but there are no possibility to link it to real-life system, establishing different rules for main network, risers, branches and connecting pipes. neither there is practical way (that i was able to find) to conduct balancing and make balancing report.

i use british cymap that gives me opportunity to establish rules to about everything - sizing criteria for different kind of systems according to trade rules, distinction between different position of pipes as mentioned above, temperature regime, balancing reports, possibility to calculate piping heat losses, complete intelligent link between piping and heating/cooling emitters, that actually put the whole system into calculation.

I have used their software for loads with good results, but I mostly use hap/equest nowadays... just personal preference. For pipe sizing and hydraulics I like epanet or just graphs, same goes for ducts.
