Hello,
I'm hoping to learn a few things about using simplified representations. From what I understand, what they do is exclude components in assemblies to lessen the graphical load in large assemblies.
What I was hoping to do was be able to show components arranged in one particular way and save it, but then be able to reset the assembly to how the components were before I moved them around (so I can show both arrangements in a drawing). I'm not sure if this has anything to do with simplified reps. Maybe I'm looking for some other pro/e feature. thanks

I think that what you are looking for is the Style tab on the View Manager (I think it's only available with Advanced Assembly).

The style allows you to choose an orientation, simplified rep, etc - if I understand it properly.

Simplified Rep can even be used with various explode states as well.
