USGS/ASCE Web-Based Tool for Seismic Site Classification

Folks, I'm a mechanical guy dabbling in some civil seismic stuff, meaning I'm out of my wheelhouse a little bit. I'm doing some seismic work with ASCE 7-16. I was told there is a USGS website to get Ss and S1 values for locations around the USA. What is the web address for that site?

Could you give me a quick crash course on how to use it? Unless I missed it, I don't see Ss and S1 values for my town.

1. Put in address.
2. Click "search".
3. Select version of ASCE-7. -22 is the current version (and will be for California in 3 weeks).
4. Select Risk Category. Category II is the most common.
5. Select Site Soil Class. In 7-16, select D (default). In 7-22, select "Default" unless you have knowledge (soils report, etc.) to the contrary.
6. Select the types of loads you want reported.
7. Click view results.

This is incorrect for California. ASCE 7-22 will be adopted by the 2025 CBC which will not go into effect until January 1, 2026, until then we use the 7-16.

There is also an Applied Technology Council webtool (which I actually prefer) but it is in the process of being phased out.
