Dear all,

Is there anyone who can help me? I would like to create a model of a glued in rod. I'm trying to do this by using cohesive elements. But probably there is something wrong in my input file or with an orientation or something. The displacements are extremly high. Is there anyone who has experience in modelling these kinds of models?

I look forward to receiving your answer,

Ronald

Hi

What's the aim of your simulation? Do you want to model damage and failure using cohesive zone elements? How are you going to find the cohesive element properties? More details would help.

Dear amubashar,

Yes i would like to model damage and failure by using cohesive zone elements. The main goal is to load an glued in rod by using displacement control.

For the glue (cohesive element) i defined the next properties:
- Elastic properties,
- Quads Damage
- Damage Evolution
- Damage Stabilization Cohesive

The fracture energies and maximum stresses, stifness and poisson's ratio are determined by doing tests or are taken frome literature.

The main problem that i have at this moment is with the definition of the top face and the bottom face of the cohesive elements.

I modelled the glue line by drawing a tube with an inner diameter of 8 mm and an outer diameter of 8,5 mm. Because i just modelled 1/2 of the model, i also modelled 1/2 of this tube. After drawing this section i defined the depth of 320 mm (extrusion).

When the glue line consist of an rectangular section, it is quite easy to define the top face and the bottom face of the cohesive element.

Do you have any idea how i can change the material orientation of this tube i such a way that the outer surface of the tube is the top face of the cohesion element? I other words, how can i specify the local material orientations of a tube?

I look forward to receiving your answer,

Ronald
