In collecting replicas in the field, I was wondering when I choose to use: acetate, foils, and molds (e.g. Struers Repliset)?

I've tried Struers repliset and didn't much enjoy it.

Acetate remains my preference, although I've retired from field work. It requires some agile finger technique to get right, especially when bridging a big weld, so I would always prepare with one or two practice rounds. Pre-production tests if you will.

Good surface preparation and etching are the keys.
