using offset coordinate system to place holes

I have to place a large number of holes in a part. I was told to create a table of points using the offset coordinate system. I have done this but have no idea how to use this to create holes. I know this question is very vague but I'm looking for the best way.

Once you have the points, create a hole referencing the first point in the pattern. Then pattern the hole using a reference pattern and boom, you have all the holes.

Unless I am mistaken points created as offset a coordinate system are not created "on surface" and therefore cannot be used as a reference for hole feature creation. To pattern holes with an array of points created as offset a coordinate system you must first create a single datum point which is defined "on surface" with appropriate references and then create the offset array. Use the single point to create the desired hole and then pattern the hole using the "point" option and select the offset array. I am not sure why but you must also select the "use alternate origin" option and select the single datum point of the original hole, otherwise the pattern may shift in odd ways.

There is no reason to limit yourself to the (IMHO) worthless hole tool. One can create revolved or extruded cuts that have no need to be placed on a surface.
