Using Spark gaps for Cathodic protection VS static charges protection for a storage tank in hazardous area

I have a spark gap , I want to use it on a solidly earthed tank in hazardous area to separate cathodic protection system from earthing system. Will it protect the tank against static charges, If I put it between the tank and grounding cable (The tank will not become solidly earthed , but it will be earthed through the spark gap)?, and what are the available criteria to make this (Protect from static charges and isolate cathodic protection system from the earthing system).
Thanks in advance,

Well a spark gap in a hazardous area doesn't sound like a good idea....

Spark gaps are normally only seen across an isolation joint to earth very high voltages from e.g. a lightning strike.
