Using Vault and a Customized Content Library

Our company is currently putting all of our Inventor models and drawings into Vault. Just before this I was in the process of customizing the Inventor Content Library to reflect our part numbers that we use for standard fasteners/o-rings/etc.. I put that library into Vault but now when I want use a bolt/screw/... it won't let me edit the database. When I try configuring the library comes up as "read-only" even with all parts checked as editable.

I thought about editing all on the library before I put it into Vault but... since doing it all at once takes a long time, plus I was only going to do the ones I needed (and it's not always clear what you will need), therefore when doing an assembly I edit the fastener I'm going to use just before I put it in.

Is there another way? Has anyone successfully mapped a editable Content Library using Vault? Does anyone else customize their Content Library like this?

I have not used Vault but have used Profiles. In that case, if I file (Vault) is listed as a library it cannot be editted. Could this be the problem? If so make a new profile where the vault is the main working folder.

I hope this helps somehow.

Thanks Adam for replying. I've never used Profiles so I don't know the comparison.

I actually did some more looking into. What I did eventually end up doing is putting the Content Library database in a folder on a shared network and the parts generated from that database are saved in a Content Files folder in the Content Library (which is read-only)in Vault so they can be accessed by the other users of the assemblies I put those parts in.

Since the Content Library database is just on a shared network and all Inventor users have their libraries configured to that folder we all seem to be able to edit the part numbers and definitions. It seems to be working thus far as long as all users have their content files being mapped to that folder on the Vault local workspace. (Hopefully of course)

If anyone has done this I'd adore some advice on how to proceed or if anyone is interested in getting a standard parts library with corresponding company part #'s and Definitions/material/etc. Let me know.
