All,

We are trying to use a vision system to inspect some plastic parts that are molded white. When it comes to inspection systems the most difficult color to work with is white. I am wondering if there are any UV additives that will show up under non visible light?

Regards,

Yes.

Lots.

Ciba Geigy or whatever they call themselves now will have an extensive range. They might also be known as OBAs or optical brightening agents.

They work by absorbing light in the UV range and re emitting it in the visible range, normally in the blue region.

Pat is 100% right as usual! I've worked with some of those additives. It's what they put in laundry detergent to make your clothes "whiter than white". Cloth can have a yellow tint, the optical brightener adsorbs UV and gives off blue that counterbalances the yellow to make the clothes appear more white. Not all give off blue, you can choose those that are green or violet too. I think the website you need is now part of BASF.
