I am in need of help with v18 sheetmetal text cutout to work correctly. When I try to rebend the sheetmetal back into the right shape that I need it comes up with an error or it cuts everything out of the part. Can someone please help?
it would be nice if you could supply a picture of what your
SM-part looks and where you would like to place the text.
Otherwise it's nearly impossible to give an advice
Because of the type of work I do, I can not send a pic of the item I am trying to work on. But I can explain it a little bit clearer. I am trying to wrap text on a cylindrical sheet metal part going horizontally long ways on the part. But it will not let me do it correctly for some odd reason. I can get the sketch to work but when I try to do the cutout part that is when it fails. Does this help out anymore than before?
Thanks
hmm, not quite I've to confess. It is possible to wrap
a sketch on that surface. The normal cutout, however, must
be done by switching to the part environment. The SM normal
cutout will not recognize the wrapped sketch. the cut will
prevent, however, the flattening or unbending of that shape.
BTW: there is no need to have the full part as a pic just
a cutout of it that shows the shape with some surrounding
on which to place the sketch
What marpoe9 tries to do is to unbend, then insert text cutout of the unbend part and rebend it. This is what I meant 'Stencil Font' allows it to do.
In other fonts, texts like O, D, P etc create cutout that makes the material 'float', SE doesn't allow this to rebend.
ok, that was not quite clear. Maybe I was mislead by
the subject and 'wrap text' for there is no need to use
it when placing text on a flat piece even when it
crosses the bending zone.
But when on V18 one can use this font: gunplay
I think that what fwc means is that when a character is cut into a surface you don't want islands or areas that are not material supported. Hence the stencil font. Many characters have this problem.
In V19 sheet metal...
Created contour flange of cylinder 6" diameter with 1/64" open seam to allow flattening. Unbend this profile. Create sketch on face and insert text "help". Normal cutout and select single wireframes not including the inner profile of the 'e' and 'p'. Rebend profile.
Rebend will not work with inner profile of 'e' and 'p' included.
