Hi,

We're planning to merge from V4 til V5. However, we're having som troubles importing the V4 3d models drawings into V5. We tried to use file --> open from the V5 menu:

We can se the model, but not change it, unless we copy & paste into a blank V5 model. Once we do that, we can change it, but still with some constraints. I.E, we can't change the size of a hole, we actually have to make a new hole.

When it comes to the drawing, the problems are similar. Moreover, it lacks measurement.

Is there a good way to import V4 models into V5 without having to basically rebuild the entire model? Also, what about the linking between model and drawing.

Importing V4 3D models to V5:

1. Open a V4 model to V5 Browser (File -> Open)
2. Create a new V5 part document (File -> New -> Part)
3. Copy V4 model to clipboard
4. Paste to V5 part (Edit -> Paste Special-- -> as spec)

Now you have part structure you can edit

Drawing:

If you don't have dimensions and text in drawing after pasting V4 drawing to V5. I guess your V5 settings lack V4 project file information. Make sure you have correct project file path in Tools - Options - General - Compatibility - Project File Path

I think it is impossible to keep links from V4 drawing to V4 3D model after pasting a drawing to V5.

If I have a Catia V4 model made under UNIX, may I see it (and work with this) under Catia V5 for Windows?

It is possible to see V4 UNIX models on V5 in Windows.

You need a software (t.ex. samba) to be able to see models stores on unix drive from windows or manually copy V4 files to windows drive.

V4 model names should be in format which is compatible with windows. Do not use spaces in V4 model names!

Thanks eklunja! I was curios about that and I think its very possible for me to use your advice in the future.

Please tell me something about the models if you know. The models will have same structure or they will have some differences?

Thanks again.
