The "rings" only take flat bar common sizes, thus the size I wish to use to utilize drop from the shell plate is not available. I know it works as I've done other calculations to support the different rings, but the customer wants to see it in COMPRESS.

I tried the "user defined" category thinking I could perhaps add my own rings to the size I needed but it just has channel sizes there.

Anyway to add a custom defined ring out of plate that is not a predetermined flat bar size?

Thanks.

COMPRESS rings will accept flat bar and other structural sections as well, including channels, angles, tee's, WT's, etc, including custom "user defined" shapes.

You can enter a user defined structure. Click the "New" button on the Structural Sections dialog (see paragraph below). The section property fields in the middle are unlocked. Enter a descriptive name, the section properties, then click the "Commit" button.

COMPRESS comes with a database that includes a number of common sizes of all these sections. COMPRESS also includes a database with all structural sections listed in the AISC steel design manual. These can be added to the ring structure menu selection in a manner similar to that used to add materials from the complete ASME materials database to the "short list" used in the component material selection lists. Add the AISC structures by selecting the Materials menu at top of the screen, select the Structures command. Click the "Show all structures" button the Structural Sections dialog. Then expand the desired branch and "check" the desired structure sizes for wide flange, channels, flat bar, etc.
