I need to replace a section of 10" diameter Sch 40 PVC used as the main vacuum header, with carbon steel tubing. The vacuum system is under full vacuum and could occasionally experiece upwards of 300F air through this section of pipe due to a vacuum booster(which is why I am changing from PVC to steel). However, I do not have a copy of the ASME B31.3, Process Piping Standards, to properly calculate the necissary wall thickness for this pipe under full vacuum. Does anyone have experience with this type of piping or information about the equations used to derive a safe wall thickness? My current plan is to use 12 gauge tubing with welded socket flanges.
