How do I determine the value of fracture toughness (KIC) for a specimen corresponding to a finite plate of width 65 mm, made from a steel with a yield strength of 650 MN m-2, which contains an edge crack 8.5 mm long. A fracture toughness test is carried out on this specimen, and a failure stress of 295 MN m-2 is measured. Could someone please help me and also explain me how to solve this?????? Thank you

mahkum;
Fracture toughness (KIc) is a value that is obtained from industry-accepted fracture toughness testing methods. There are many published values available for steel from various sources; materials engineering test books or the internet or determined values using standard specifications for testing. However, you need to know the composition of the steel, heat treatment condition and test temperature.
What type of fracture toughness testing was performed? Review the test method to determine how the fracture toughness value is determined.
The other information you provided in your post seems like a basic application of fracture mechanics found in a materials engineering class at the university. Is this application for a test you are performing or being used on an actual component?
