Valve for ASME B31.3 Category M service

ASME B31.3 para.M307.2.(b).(1) specifies as below;

valve design to prevent stem leakage to the environment.

There may be some methods to reflect this requirement
such as fugitive emission test or special packing, etc.

Now we are looking for suitable methods to reflect this requirement, which has to be cheapest way because the cost
shall be paid by us.

Could you advise me of your experience?

'Someone' is always responsible for certification or allowance to operate the 'plant' you are supplying to.

You will have to clarify if 'designed according to' or 'tested according to' is required, and to what certification level.

Please also remind yourself that buying a too low quality is not always the cheapest coming to startup tests and trial runs, not to mention cost/lifetime considerations and risk and cost by early breakdown.

Category M service is a big deal. No one method will suffice or be proper for all of Cat M liquids. What is the specific chemical? The owner is responsible for a Cat M classification. Such as fluid could be lethal at detectable concentrations, or highly corrosive at any leak. it might not be significantly volatile at the temperature of the leak, so there may not be fugitive emissions detectable. Work with the owner. if he has a Cat M fluid, he will usually know what needs to be done.
