valve with chlorine water

We have the job to design a valve for chlorine water (for an offer), but we have no real experience in doing this. The customer would like to have alloy 59 or inconel 625. But the machining time and the material costs are very high. Maybe there is a cheaper solution or material according to the needs specified in the attachment. Thank you for help.

If you have no experience, you are in over your head regarding this job. You make no mention of the type of valve you intend to design/supply and are asking about material that a customer requested?

I would advise you to decline this bid.

Thank you metengr for reply. But I think there is a missunderstanding, because it is not the problem to design the valve, but the problem is the long machining time and the price of the material. My question is, if there is any cheaper material or alloy to fullfill the requirements. The design of the valve should be like in the attached file, but only one reducing step.

I understand the lead time and costs. However, you should go back to discuss alternatives with your customer. Also, depending on the valve standard, only certain materials are permitted for use.

Using alloy 59 for all wetted parts of the valve makes sense to me. Let's see, use a lower alloy, the valve fails, Cl gas leaks and kills people; that does not sound like a good plan to me.
If it were me I would even make parts that might see the water if seals failed out of 59. This is serious stuff, don't look to cut corners.

Ok. you are right, but the customer can´t find manufactory for the chlorine valve. Maybe you know somebody, who could do this. It is a very good customer of us and we want to help by finding a solution. Thank you for help.
