Dear All,

Good day, I'm working in a company of valves and we are starting for to obtain API spec. 6A and API spec. Q1 at level PSL 4.

My question is: make a valve prototype with rating pressure 10000 psi, test level PR 2 and others mandatory requirements for to obtain PSL 4 certification, it’s not allowed to produce and sell valves monogrammed API 6A with higher rating pressure at 15000 or 20000 psi?

Thank you All

If your company is obtaining an API 6A monogram license, they will be able to produce, and monogram the full range of API products listed on their licensee. That includes all pressure classes of valves if you receive a license for the manufacture of valves. Your company would just need to have the design and validation information available for API audits. You should probably retain the services of an API auditor as a consultant to train your engineering and quality departments on how procedures and documentation should be present as well as what your company is and isn't allowed to manufacture or monogram under the license you are applying for.

Thank you very much SPDL310,

So, getting started, is adequate to design a small flanged valves e.g. size 2 1/16 in, 2000 psi and performance requirement level PR1? This valve can be proposal to consultants API for a license PSL 4?

I don't really get the question.

In my perspective,
given the company has API 6A & monogram license, the company can create valve prototype 10,000PSI PSL4 and qualify it to PR2 once it passed the test.
but it doesn't mean that prototype can qualify the higher rating pressure like 15k & 20k. you can read API 6A (20th ed.) Annex F.1.14 for scaling rule.
Even if I put some perspective from customer side, how can the valve manufacturer can qualify their product for 15k & 20k
given they only have test data up to 10k.

I agree with yudhichen 100%. If it seemed that I was implying otherwise I'm sorry. The OP's question is indeed vague. I assumed it to mean that his company was applying for API license, and he wished to know if the company received a license for valves based on a 10K PR2 PSL4 valve, could they at a later date design a 15K or 20K valve.

For the OP's reply, you would need to have the quality documentation, and procedures in place to manufacture to PSL4, and apply for it on your license. The maximum PSL rating you are allowed to monogram will be listed on your license. I'm not positive on the following point, but it is my understanding that you have to have manufactured at least one item of each category listed on your license. That may include manufacturing to the maximum PSL rating.
