Valves/Fittings for Stormwater Ponds

If you are using ductile iron, what type of fitting is most often used for stormwater ponds? Site info: 3 ft deep micropool, 10000 cf storage, 3-inch dia. D.I. pond drain w/gate valve, rest of drain system is PVC, concrete structure will house pipe drain system. I plan on using mechanical joint rather than flanged (big difference in cost). Is this OK in this application?

I'm interested to hear what others think, but I don't know that the joint type really matters in this case. The only reason to spec DIP is for durability. The water isn't going to be under any significant pressure.

One thing I would personally do, though, is switch that gate valve to a ball valve. Gate valves have a tendency to freeze up, corrode, etc, after being out in the elements for years. That's why they're typically prohibited as through-hull valves on boats.
