A followup for those interested -
Grundfoss has announced a hydronic circulator that is exactly what I needed and was trying to duplicate.
PM motor with integral speed control, and pressure sensor to maintian pressure across the pump. Exactly the type of device I kept ranting about "why don't they do this". I would like to know if it is noisy like the one I tried but too late. Not going to buy and install another circulator.
