Hello,
I have a reinforced concrete vault that is cast in place with integral walls and floor with removeable lid. I want to do a structural analysis of the vault, but am unsure of how to combine the support from the end walls and the cantilever support from the floor.
Does anyone have experience with the design of vaults can point me in a direction to start? Are there any good reference books that deal with this kind of structure? Is it typical to ignore one of the supporting mechanisms such that the end design is very conservative?
More specifically, the vault I am looking at is ~20'x20', 12' high, 1'-1'3" wall and floor thickness with #6 rebar @ 12" spacing at both interior and exterior faces. Currently the vault is 6' below grade (with manhole access) and I am looking at extending the walls to grade and evaluating if I can use the existing vault for any support.
Thanks,
Ivan Locke
