I came across the use of "velocity" check valves on a downhole hot water circulation line for a gas wellhead. I was told that they are installed to safeguard against any gas leaks into the circ system??. I'm still not sure how that works? can someone familiar with this application kindly explain how does a "velocity" check valve function. How is it different from other check valves?

Much appreciated...

I'm not familar with the term, do you have a manufacturer and model #?

Is it also known as an "excess flow valve"?

Thanks a lot to all of you! I researched this and I agree with butelja that it acts similar to an excess flow valve but the terminology is confusing coupled with the fact that it is not meant to prevent backflow....TD2K, I will try and obtain the info you mentioned i'm sure that will help...and VPL thanks too for the link certainly very useful....guys your contributions have been very helpful in all the forums too!....Cheers!
