Hello to everyone,
Is it possible to use a process nozzle as Vent in Shell Side of Heat Exchanger?
I have been looking for in TEMA but I can't find a paragraph where I can find this thing.

Can you elaborate more?

Detailing is a hobby,

Well process nozzles aren't usually on the top edge which vents are. Needs a bit more to say yes or no.

If the nozzle isn't at the high point I would say, this isn't a vent

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Matrix_93, not sure the intent, but shell & tube exchangers, especially in single-phase flow, are routinely furnished without separate vent and drain nozzles if the design allows for self-venting / draining thru the process nozzles.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

A venting facility on a HX need not necessarily be directly on the HX body. It can even be on a nearby piping branch tee off one one of the existing nozzles on the vessel, provided the nozzle is at the top of the vessel.

Absolutely, same for a drain. An HX fabricator rarely has any info whatsoever about the clients' system into which the HX will be installed. If the design is inherently vented / drained, that is sufficient. If the client needs something more, it's his (sic) duty to specify.

Is this HX installed horizontal or vertical?

See TEMA FIGURE N-2 vent and drain nozzles

Thank you for the answers!
Exchanger is horizontal but on shell side is self supported by 2 main process nozzles!
I don't know how the piping is made above two main nozzles.
This is the first time I see an item self supported by nozzles connection, for this reason I have asked to you.

You send us little information to help you.
We are not fortune tellers.

Matrix_9,
If needed, you may add a new vent nozzle on the Exchanger if the existing process nozzle is not suitable for that purpose. Suggest to talk to your Mechanical Engineer for it.
