I am designing an HVAC system for an industrial building that will utilize a 40 m long x 15 m diameter rotating drum, open at both ends to mix hot water (T=80C) and bitumen ore to separate the bitumen from the sand.
I'm trying to determine the required amount of OA required to provide an acceptable indoor environment for this building.
My first thought was to treat the inside surface area of the drum as a "wetted area" and use the ASHRAE ventilation rate for a swimming pool or hot tub to calculate a ventilation rate. Next I would calculate the waste heat being generated as a result of the hot water, and determine a ventilation rate based on keeping my indoor temperature at 35 C max. I would then use the higher of these two numbers as my ventilation rate.
Does this approach make sense?
