I have transferred a model of a body scan from Geomagic to Pro-E in a DXF format. I want to calculate the cross sectional area of the model at various points on the z-axis. I am trying to execute the method under topic "Example: Analyzing the Cross Section of a Pipe" but cant get through step 4a. Is there a problem with my model/format? I've checked the model in Geomagic.

Why don't you do the analysis right in Geomagic? Also, what Geomagic are you using, Qualify or Studio?

Make sure your model is a solid. If you just scanned and meshed it, it is most likely not solidified and thus you wont be able to get its area.

I am using Geomagic Studio11. Yes you are right. The model I scanned is hollow from inside. Is there any way I can make it solid/fill it in Pro-E/Geomagic or any other software? If the above is not possible can I find the area enclosed by any other software?

Do you have a completely closed body? If you have any holes in your body you will run into problems in any program (both measuring the cross sectional area and in solidifying the object.

I would recommend using Studio to find the cross sectional area. I am using 12, and I don't remember the menu layout for 11 (12 has the ribbon design everyone seems to be switching to), but I am sure 11 can compute areas as well. In 12, under the analysis tab there is a compute button. Here you can select to compute the cross sectional area. Just define a plane and select it as the section for the calculation. If you have gaps in your scan at the section of interest, you will need to patch them in order for this calculation to work.

The 11 does not have the option for cross section but the 12 does. Thank you.

If you can't do it in Geomagic you are going to need to make it 100% enclosed. If you have any holes of any size, you will not be able to find the area in Pro/E. Do all the patching in Geomagic, but if you can't seal all the holes, I'd say you are out of luck, unless you can update to 12 I guess. I could have sworn version 11 had the same feature though.
