Verrrrrrrrr.....y slow ROTATION/PAN of second open model

SW2005 - Windows XP - from Local drive;

- opened detail
- opened assy
- saved both under 2005
- exit SW
- started SW 2005 again

And now the problem:

- opened detail
- opened assy (in this order)

Assy slow like hell on ROTATION/PAN

- Closed both
- Exit SW

- Reopen SW
- open assy
- open detail (in this order)

Now detail slow like hell - that is Always the second solid model opened.

Haven't tried any more to open yet.

Anybody has seen that ???

After that used CONVERSION WIZARD and converted the models from SW 2004 to 2005 . Problem remains.

What pisses me of is that there was NO such problem with the solid models under 2004 as recently as yesterday.

What video card and driver? - This sounds like a video card issue more then anything else - See faq559-1027 - To get accurate information about your video card.

Used CD version (3 disks).

Now, another experiment - forget about previous assy - just tested with two PARTS,

- sprocket, file size 383 kb
- roller, file size 147 kb.

The second part (Roller) slow like hell.

Also list to us the amount of Virtual memory you have allocated.

As Scott stated it looks like it's the video card & driver.

to find the latest driver for your card, or better still upgrade your card to a certified one. I suggest the nVidia quadro fx500 for a starter.

Your video card is the problem. Even though it worked for SW04 doesn't mean that it will for SW05. SW05 is more demanding and 32MB card will not handle it. I'm really surprised SW04 did as well you say it did. But none the less your problem is your card.

However you might find something here that might help - thread559-87811 - if you can't get this to work then you should Highly considered (Honestly you should any way) replacing that card with one SW supports - Like a Quadro 500 FX -

O.K. folks, when I close the first item (the fast one) then the second item that was SLO

Need to upgrade your RAM, video card, bigger HD and maybe faster processor... I suggest 3.4 GHz minimum.

not less then 1 Gig of RAM and change that video card - that is your bottle neck! Set your Virtual memory to 3 or 4 times your amount of RAM and put it on a separate HDD - If you read the link I provided above, you would have read that placing your Virtual memory on a separate HDD will give you a perfromance increase of 15-30%.

But to get back to your question directly - the problem is your video card. Because as you rotate your models on the screen your Video card has to refresh itself each time it moves. The reason the one is fast and the other is slow, is because of the limitation of that card with multiple windows open at one time. - If you had went to CBL's website link (

you would have read about a limitation with mulitple windows open.

With the information you just provided above. You proved the case of the video card being the problem. The best solution is for you to change cards. Your second best choice would be or try the thread link I gave you above.

I would check one more thing beyond what Scott has posted and that would be to ckeck and see how much memory that the computer reports when it starts up. You may have lost one chip on the first memory strip on the computer.

I'm with SBaugh. Pan and Rotation speed dependent on the number of opened windows it's a typical issue of low memory video card or opengl bug.

Maybe you can improve your system behaviour with one or more of the following:
- install better video card drivers (not always the latest is the best to run SW)
- adjust the Opengl settings of the video card (try to find some information on the net) specialy those regarding buffers and swaping
- if none of the above works, change SW option to software Opengl
