I am a relatively new user on V5 and I have ran into a problem trying to control multiple versions. Basically, I have a Cylinder Head which remains the same in each version and a variety of Intake Ports that are subtracted. My set up is as follows.
---------------------------------------------
Finished Head A (Product)
Head Skeleton (Part)
Head (Part)
Port Skeleton A (Part)
Port A (Part)
Finished Head A (Part)
---------------------------------------------
Finished Head B (Product)
Head Skeleton (Part)
Head (Part)
Port Skeleton B (Part)
Port B (Part)
Finished Head B (Part)
---------------------------------------------
In each case, the Finished Head (Part) is made by copy-pasting-with-link both the Head and the Port and then subtracting them. The Head is linked only to the Head Skeleton. The Port Skeleton is linked to the Head Skeleton. The Port is linked only to the Port Skeleton.
I am saving all models within the same directory.
The problem is that I create version A and save it. I then modify the port skeleton, update everything and save as version B. Now, when I re-open version A, the external links in the head have been broken. I think that this is because when version B was saved, it saved the Head again even though it had not changed and the save operation linked it to Product B.
Has anyone else had similar problems and found solutions. Do I need to use a product manager. The only solution I have found so far is to save each version in a different directory. But this creates many copies of the Head that are all identical.
Thanks in advance.
