Hi there, we are designing Vertical Axis Wind Turbine.

The issue is that it would not self-start, unless it has a “zero” resistance. It is ok with a bearings, but it is not ok with a Permanent Magnet Generator, since magnets would have initial resistance / torque when starting from zero RPM. Consequently there is a need to disengaged generator from a wind rotor, by using electro-magnetic clutch (we have salvaged it from a car air /conditioner compressor).

So here is a question : “How to activate an electro-magnetic clutch, (engaging wind rotor to a generator on a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine), by a tachometer, when rotor reaches the region of 200 RPM?”

Thanks a lot

Use a tachometer with a relay output or use a speed switch in addition to the tachometer.
