Very large deformation - Poor Mesh Ratio - Remeshing Script

I am currently working on a low velocity impact on a stratified structure with Abaqus 6.11 / Explicit.

I would like to evaluate the effects of the elastomer mechanical proprieties on the metal B damage.
So far, i have done a axissymmetric model with ALE mesh control which prevent element distortion due to the high Poisson coefficient of the elastomer.
However, ALE mesh control don't update the edge seed therefore the elastomer aspect ratio is very poor under the impact zone.

To prevent this phenomena my goal is to:
(1) -stop the calculation
(2) -update the model with output geometry
(3) -remesh the elastomer
(4) -rebuild the model (Materials, Contacts...)
(5) -remap the new mesh with the data from the last increment
(6) -restart the calculation

I have only be able achieve (1) and (2) with Python but i am unable to remesh

This as certainly been done before, can someone help me?

Did you check the output geometry?
There should be some subroutines to remesh.

I've looked at the output file, I don't see any way to remesh. Could you tell me where i can find this feature?

-To rstupplebeen:
I sadly need to go much farther (5 times more energy). I don't see what you mean by "bias the mesh the other way for the undeformed mesh".

What have you tried for remeshing? Does the python 'Part2DGeomFrom2DMesh' method not work?
 
I did this before. Use python to extract the exterior boundary of the deformed specimens and call cae mesh modulus after in the same python. Then you can play with the newly generated mesh with whatever you want.
