Dear All ,

We are developping a motor control test center project, and some of our collegues are suggesting to use a VFD to fed a power transformer in order to change the transformer´s voltage output with out change the frecuency, this is intendded for load and no load test.

Any one with similar experience ? pros and conts??

Thanks for the Inputs

Hey Petronila.
As I remember, Gunnar recommend you several things in the Electric motors forum.
Why you ask again???
Regards.

Yes Slavag,

But the electric Motor forum is for motors and I would like to know more about the possible problems with the transformer.

Thanks

Wouldn't the VFD change the frequency not the voltage?

I am on a similar project for my shop. Take a look at

Thanks Edison,

Culd you sayd me you`r shop name?

I would not trust test results from a VFD supply unless signifiicant filtering was used to almost eliminate harmonics. One of the purposes of the load and no load tests on a transformer is to measure the losses and impedances accurately. Harmonics from the VFD's may increase losses in the transformer and can make it difficult to get an accurate KW reading.
