Is any one running an ATI V5800 video card at the current time with NX and or other 3D modeling software? Any problems and or great reviews would be nice. Thanks

It's not so much the video card itself that often is the deciding factor, but rather whether you can get an NX-certified driver for it from Siemens. You can check this out by going to:

Note that it appears that you may be in luck as several CPU/Graphics Card combos using the ATI FirePro V5800 are listed as supported.

Thanks John

We are looking at dells. I do believe this card is certified in HP machines at this time, but I think the card is still in the certification process for the dell machine at Siemens. I was trying to get real world experiences and how the card performed in a production environment. Thanks for the feedback always appreciated.

My Personal opinion is that you must Verify the graphics adapter yourself, It might show up some strange behavior on some occasions that can be tedious/ expensive to fix when all computers are in place. And if i would choose, i would not choose ATI but the competitor, i have seen a few too many strange graphics errors on ATI cards.

I too prefer Nvidia cards over ATI cards.
I even have Nvidia cards in my 2 HP laptops at home.
My Dell XPS does have an ATI card, but that computer is 7 years old now. Use it mostly to archive email and as a storage device for photos that can then be viewed and manipulated on the laptops.

Thanks for the feedback. The other card we are looking at is nvidia quadro 2000. We have a couple of people liking one of the cards and some who like the other. So if you have had any experience with the quadro Please give some feedback on this card.

Good input thanks again.

I prefer Nvidia cards, too. I have seen some problems with ati cards,
maybe history, but.... Problems we had with Nvidia are with the display of the letter F in the dialogs with the big/very expensive Fx 2800 and above.

I have the ATI V5800 installed on my dell precision T3400. It was a big improvement over the nvidia 500 series it replaced. We went with the ATI because it received slightly better reviews from a recent Desktop Design article than a comparably priced nvidia card.

There were some graphic issues that occured once in a while but they went away when we tried another driver.

I am running a 27" monitor next to a 19" monitor rotated 90 degrees. I run NX full screen on the 27" and have all my navigators on the 19" monitor.

Although there was significant difference in speed when I changed cards it still is not fast enough. I just waited 20 minutes for a drawing view to update. I have a lot to learn about managing large assemblies. I hope to be able to ask some intellegent questions in the near future.

If you need more details like drivers we are using just ask.

I am using 7.5.2.5 NATIVE on Dell with windows XP OS

Please don't assume that if it takes a long time for a Drawing view to update that this has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with your graphics card or the driver. In fact, when it comes to Drafting and creating Drawings, the Vendor or the specifications of the graphics card has very little impact on the apparent performance of NX, with the possible exception of when you're dynamically zooming or panning around a Drawing or when changing from one drawing sheet to another.
