I am working in AutoCAD 2007. I have recently encountered a problem when I move my viewport on the drawing. The program locks up and doesn't respond. Then I have to terminate the program and open the drawing again.

I have run Audit, I have purged all items not being used. The program works fine as long as I don't move my viewport.

I have only found this on a couple of drawings. Other files I cam move the viewports and they work fine.

I believe the problem is viewport specific and not the entire file as the latest occurance of this I had two viewports side by side. I moved the one on the left with no problem. I moved the one on the right and the program froze.

Does anyone know what causes this?

What is in the viewport? if it is a raster image or something large, i have had similar problems. i ended up creating a new drawing and using copy clip / wblock to move the information into the new drawing.

It's just a small lift station that we are upgrading. It's pretty flat ground so there aren't alot of contours etc...

I'll mention the sevice packs to our I.S. guys. I spoke with some other people here and they are experiencing the same problem.

I did find a quick fix for it. I found it you move the viewport and window everything to get the labels etc... in paperspace, it crashes.

If you move the viewport by itself. And then move the labels with a second move command, it works fine.

I'm still voting for the service packs though.

Thanks for your help!

Were these normal rectangular viewports or more complex polygon ones? I've had problems with dwgs crashing/freezing with the irregular viewports much much more than regular ones. Service packs are always a good starting point for crash issues.

The were irregular shaped viewports. They didn't need to be, though (not sure why they were created that way) so I switched the one I was having trouble with to a regular square shaped viewport and clipped it. (Thinking that would fix it right? Wrong.) No luck, I still had to move the view port and labels separately.

A friend of mine who works at another firm told me that the problem is I am working in the 2007 version. His firm only purchases AutoCAD on the even years because they are supposedly (according to him) the working versions of the previous years. Sounds like an urban legend to me, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this?
