Viewer for NX (parasolids)

Hello,

My office runs NX 7.5.4.4 windows 64 bit. Can the viewer be installed without installing the rest of NX? If not where can I find a free viewer to demonstrate some parasolids?

Hi,
Although there are some parasolid viewer freeware you can find on web.i presume most of them are basically demo versions only.
But shall i ask you a question..Is there any reason for not considering JT for visualization purpose? That too when JT supports a number of data objects you can visualize like for ex. PMI and also enables you doing sectioning/mark-ups and measurements.
Infact if you are really interested you can explore JT2GO application which is free of cost.(as far as my knowledge is concerned). You can do basic 3-d sectioning along with PMI viewing and doing precise measurements with the latest JT2GO version.

There is no reason not to consider them. I am just asking if there is a viewer for parasolids without installing the rest of NX. IF JT is included on our license without having to fully install NX I will find out and put it on. I thought there was a viewer included somewhere

Just chiming in with what we're using at my current employer; Teamcenter Visualization Mockup or VisView Pro will open a plethora of NX-related files as well as JT, neutral file formats (STEP) and raster file formats (TIFF, JPG, etc). The downside is that I believe it is not free.

I'm not sure of the "nuts & bolts" of it, but I am not running Teamcenter itself and only have the VisView portion installed.

You really should consider using JT for non-NX based activities where a 3D model is needed. For more information about JT go to:

Also of interest is that as of this past December, JT has been accepted by and published as the first ISO '3D Visualization' standard:

We've already gotten assurances from various organizations, including competitors, that with this blessing from ISO will come a broader acceptance and support of JT as a true 3D Visualization standard for the industry. Therefore, we should expect to see even more tools and products which both accepts and produces 3D data using the JT standard.

We just started to use ExpresReview to view JT and PCF files on the shop floor.
PCF files are created when you use File-Send to Package File.
Using this option will automatically open ExpresReview (after you installed it, free download from GTAC) and display your data. It will even create CGM files of any drawings embedded withing the assembly/part you exported. You then save this PCF file and anyone with the ExpresReview software can view this data.

Using the PCF option also allows you to measure and cut sections which you loose when opening JT files alone.
Main thing is that the Teamcenter visualization costs money whereas ExpresReview is free.

There is NO need to go to GTAC for anything since support of JT is already built into NX. That means that you can either Save an external JT file when you save your NX part file (it's just a setting in 'Save Options'), or you can explicitly Export a JT file without the need for any special or extra-cost license. Also, if you already have a JT file from wherever, you can Open that JT file as an NX file, again without any special or extra-cost license. So there's nothing stopping you from using JT as '3D Visualization' solution if you can get your hands on a JT 'viewer'.

Okay Maybe this has gotten off topic. The idea is to create a dumb solid/volume such as a parasolid, and have someone else without NX or without a full NX installation to be able to view it. Thanks!

Here is another idea we use 3D PDF files to share with others. Especially for out of house vendors for quick looks. It takes some cash to get the program to create these models. But you can create a PDF from PRT file really easy. I do not know where this techonology is at, or where it is going but it works for us for now. Most everyone has acrobat pdf reader on their computers. So they can view the 3D model. Not everyone has JT2go or can install this program on their computers due to IT permissions or company procedures.
